About me – Leonie ter Horst
Veterinarian and animal chiropractor
Hi! I'm Leonie ter Horst, and I graduated as a veterinarian from Utrecht University in 2006. In 2010, I specialized further in chiropractic care through the International Academy for Veterinary Chiropractic in Germany. Since then, I’ve been working full-time as a veterinary chiropractor.
Most of my patients are horses, but I also treat dogs (and occasionally other animals) with great care and attention. Every animal deserves a fit, pain-free foundation.

A holistic approach to your horse or dog
Horse treatmentMy approach? It’s holistic. That means I look beyond just the symptoms. I focus on the bigger picture, with the musculoskeletal system and nervous system as the starting point. Whether it’s a lame horse, a dog with back issues, or an animal that just isn’t feeling its best — I look for the blockages and how we can resolve them.
-
Working together towards recovery
Dog treatmentEvery treatment is tailored. Together with you as the owner, I assess what your animal needs. By listening carefully and observing closely, I aim not only to resolve the issue but also to prevent it from recurring. My goal? To help your animal move, function, and feel good again.
My services
Lame horse? This is how I work
Many of the horses I treat struggle with lameness. That’s why I usually start by observing your horse in motion, so we can assess the movement pattern together. We check the straight line, the circles, and sometimes I briefly lunge the horse.
After that, we discuss the medical history and I evaluate whether there’s more going on. Not every case of lameness is an isolated issue!
Chiropractic + acupuncture
Treatment often starts at the foundation: the skeleton and nervous system. With chiropractic care and a few acupuncture needles, I help the body restore its balance.
Good to know:
-
Flat surface needed (for my mounting block)
-
Shelter from rain is appreciated
-
Horse should be dry and clean

Advice & follow-up
After the treatment, I provide personalized training advice for your horse. Sometimes one session is enough, other times we schedule a follow-up.
Laser therapy – fast recovery through light
Since the rise of the High Power Laser, I’ve been working with this remarkable device. The effect? Often spectacular! From wounds and tendon injuries to chronic pain or skin issues – laser therapy helps your animal’s body heal faster and more effectively.
-
What it works for (and what it doesn’t)
Laser therapy can be used for:
- Wounds (fresh or old)
- Tendon or muscle injuries
- Skin issues
- Acute and chronic pain
Only in certain cases, such as tumors or abscesses, I prefer not to use the laser.
Pre-purchase veterinary exam
Treatment of dogs
The dogs I treat usually come to me on location – although there is currently no fixed treatment space available.
Owners often notice that their dog isn’t moving well, is less active, or even shows signs of lameness. If possible, we take a short walk outside to closely observe the movement pattern.
Holistic approach
I always look at the bigger picture. After discussing the medical history, I begin with a chiropractic treatment, sometimes combined with acupuncture, depending on what your dog needs.
-
After the treatment
You’ll receive personalized advice on movement and any follow-up treatments. Together, we’ll determine what’s best for your dog.
Rates
We value transparency. That’s why we provide a clear overview of the costs. Prices include VAT. For treatments on location, additional travel costs may apply, depending on the distance and number of animals.
